Robert E. Owings

Robert E. Owings, a beloved husband, father, and friend, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, December 5, 2025.  Born on March 28, 1940, in Laurens, South Carolina, Robert lived a life full of love, service, and dedication.

Robert was the son of Hicks Franklin Owings and Laura Caroline Owings (Bubba) who instilled in him the values of hard work and integrity.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his cherished son Hicks Martin Owings, and his siblings: brothers Luther, Charles, William (Billy), and Jim, as well as sisters Dorothy, Sarah Catherine Knight, Estelle Kirby, and Elizabeth Hill.

A proud veteran, Robert served in the Navy, where he learned discipline and camaraderie that would stay with him long after his service. He carried these values into his career at Praxair, where he worked for many years in Camden, Ora, Florida, and North Carolina.

Robert enjoyed a rich and fulfilling life, but his greatest joy came from his family and church. He is survived by his loving wife Joyce. Together they raised their son, Hicks and daughter Lynn, who were the light of his life. Robert also adored his wonderful sisters and brothers-in-law as well as many nieces and nephews.

Robert was a devoted member of Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church and former member of Eastside Baptist Church. He was also a Thirty Second Degree Masonic Mason.

A graveside service to celebrate Robert’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, December 8, 2025, at Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Alex Henderson and J. D. Putman will conduct the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church Far More Fund.
