Cook rewrites Red Devils’ record book against Cardinals

Clinton senior Javen Cook set a new single-game records for rushing and scoring Friday night during the Red Devils’ 56-14 victory over Landrum at Wilder Stadium.

Cook rushed for 334 yards and a record-tying five touchdowns and a a pair of 2-point conversions for a total of 34 points scored.

He scored touchdowns on four runs of more than 50 yards, including two of more than 75 yards. He scored on touchdown runs of 52, 58, 79, 81 and 7 yards.

Cook’s individual rushing record sparked a new team rushing mark as well as the Red Devils gained a record 533 yards on 34 attempts for a 15.7-yard per carry average.

His performance broke the 19-year-old single-game rushing record of 292 yards set by Brian Kingsborough against Riverside in 2006. Kingsborough also owned the single-game scoring record with 30 points in the same contest.

The team rushing record of 526 yards was set in 2022 against Woodruff.

The Red Devils (6-3 overall, 3-0 Region 1-2A) led 50-7 at halftime, and the second half was played with a running clock due to the SCHSL’s mercy rule.

Clinton’s Angelo Cromer added an 11-yard touchdown run, and K.J. Vance a 32-yard scamper. Owen Glenn also connected with

Jaydon Glenn on an 18-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter.

The Cardinals (3-5, 0-2) were limited to 237 yards of total offense and Clinton defenders intercepted Landrum quarterback Ty Foster three times. Foster completed 16 of 31 passes for 153 yards. He also rushed six times for 59 yards.

Landrum got on the scoreboard with 1:03 left in the first half with a 91-yard kickoff return that cut Clinton’s lead to 43-7.

Clinton, ranked No. 2 in Class 2A, travels to Blacksburg for the first time in program history next Friday night for the Red Devils’ regular-season finale.
