Laurens took on its second top-ranked team in as many weeks and suffered its second straight lopsided defeat.
Belton-Honea Path, the No. 1-ranked team in Class 3A, defeated the host Raiders 43-10 at Friday night.
Last week, LDHS lost 55-0 to Clinton, the top-ranked team in Class 2A.
BHP (3-0) jumped out to a 21-3 lead by halftime and outscored the Raiders 22-7 over the final two quarters.
Brock Franklin hit a 32-yard field goal early in the second quarter to cut BHP’s lead to 14-3, but the Bears answered almost immediately on an interception return for a touchdown by Ty Dubose – the first of two interceptions by Dubose.
Freshman quarterback Logan Bragg connected with Travion Robinson on a 34-yard touchdown pass in the opening minute of the fourth quarter to cut the BHP lead to 36-10. It was the freshman’s first career touchdown pass.
The Raiders fell to 0-3 on the season and will play their third straight home game at K.C. Hanna Stadium next Friday (Sept. 12) when they host A.C. Flora for Homecoming.
LDHS will hold its Homecoming Parade at 6:30 p.m. Monday. The parade will begin on Caroline Street near the Historic Laurens Square, wind around the square and travel up West Main Street where it will end at Laurens Middle School.
