Red Devils down Christ Church, advance to state finals

The Clinton boys tennis team is headed to the Class 3A/2A/1A state championship thanks to a 4-2 victory over Christ Church Wednesday in Greenville.

Clinton is returning to the state finals for the first time since 2021 and will try to win its sixth boys championship.

The Red Devils are to face the winner of Wednesday’s match between nationally ranked Oceanside Collegiate and Philip Simmons for the Lower State title. The state finals are set for 10 a.m. Saturday at the Cayce Tennis Center.

Unbeaten Clinton downed Christ Church by winning four of five  singles matches.

Singles: No. 1 Nathan Meade (CL) Nathan Meade def. Judd Windham 6-0, 6-2; No. 2 Carson Bowers (CC) def. Edwin Orr 4-6, 7-5 (10-8); No. 3 Matthew King (CL) def. Jacker Hendrix 6-1, 6-4; No. 4 Jacob King (CL) def. Keith Patel 6-3, 6-4; No. 5 Cooper Stinson (CL) def. Powers McKissick, 0-6, 6-2 (10-8).

Doubles: No. 2 Ellis Trail and Hutch Lyman (CC) def. Jack Meyerholtz and Malakye Brewer 6-1, 6-0.
