20-year-old killed in single-car crash latest fatality in county

A single-car crash Wednesday night resulted in the fourth fatality on Laurens County roads over the past two weeks.

All four victims were under the age of 21.

The deceased in the latest crash was identified by Laurens County Coroner Patti Canupp as Braydon Parker McAlister, 20, of Hickory Tavern.

The accident occurred around 11:15 p.m. Wednesday on Whelon Road about two miles from Laurens.

According to S.C. Highway Patrol Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway the 2002 Buick sedan driven by the victim traveled off the side of the road, struck a ditch and flipped over several times. McAlister was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The crash is still under investigation by the SCHP.
