Clinton man charged with murder after late night shooting
One person is dead and the suspect is in jail following a shooting late Tuesday night in Clinton.
The Clinton Police Department said in a release that Vincent Marc Viner, 34, was arrested at the scene and charged with murder. He was awaiting a Wednesday morning bond hearing.
The victim, who the Laurens County Coroner’s Office identified Friday as 69-year-old Rufford Lee “Rufus” Jones of Clinton, was taken to Prisma Health Laurens County Hospital, but succumbed to injuries.
According Clinton Police, the shooting occurred around 11:17 p.m. at 304 Florence Street in Clinton where officers arrived to find the victim in the roadway.
SLED is assisting with the investigation, Clinton Police said.
Funeral arrangements for Jones are being handled by Sanders-Thompson Mortuary of Clinton.
