Red Devils slam Saluda to advance; Camden girls eliminate Raiders
Clinton’s Tushawan Richardson scored a game-high 24 points, and the Red Devils survived a fourth-quarter Saluda rally for a 54-49 victory Tuesday night in the Class 2A state playoffs.
The Red Devils exploded for 26 points in the fourth quarter and took a 44-25 lead into the final period, but Saluda went on a 24-10 run in the final period to close the gap.
Clinton advances to the second round of the playoffs and will face the winner of Tuesday’s game between Region 1-2A champion High Point Academy (23-3) and Chesterfield (6-14). If High Point won, Clinton will be on the road at High Point in Spartanburg.
Richardson’s 24-point performance included five 3-pointers with three of those coming in the Clinton’s pivotal third quarter.
The Red Devils (15-8) hit nine 3-pointers on the night.
Devin Swindler and Terry Smith added 8 points apiece for Clinton.
Que Miles led Saluda with 11 points, and C.J. Spings and Devin Wallace added 10 apiece for the Tigers (15-8).
Raiders fall at Camden, 74-20
Camden cruised into the second round of the Class 4A girls basketball state playoffs Tuesday night with a 74-20 win over visiting Laurens.
The Bulldogs went on a 19-3 run to open the game and never looked back.
The Raiders, who finished their season with a 12-14 record, did not reach double digits in any one quarter.
