A suspect who was shot and killed Thursday morning (Oct. 10) in Gray Court has been identified by the Laurens County Coroner’s Office.
According to Chief Deputy Coroner Patti Canupp, Antonio Lavar Sullivan, 37, died at the scene from a gunshot wound.
Canupp said it is unclear where Sullivan was from, but possibly from the Asheville area.
The latest incident occurred near Lakeview Drive and Highway 101 in Gray Court.
The officer-involved shooting was the second in little more than a week in the Gray Court area and involving a Laurens County Sheriff’s Office deputy.
The first occurred on Oct. 2 following a traffic stop.
Both shootings are being investigated by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
On Oct. 7, deputies were involved in pursuit of a stolen car from a car-jacking incident in Greenville County, but deputies did not return fire. The vehicle the suspects were traveling in on I-385 and Highway 14 near and in Gray Court was disabled by deputies.
During the Oct. 7 incident, two suspects attempted to flee an LCSO deputy who attempted to stop the stolen vehicle. According, to the LCSO, a 16-year-old male from Simpsonville fired at deputies from the passenger side of the vehicle as the suspects attempted to flee. That suspect has been charged with attempted murder, possession of a stolen vehicle and drugs and weapons charges, including possession of an altered firearm/machine gun.
