PC softball opens tournament with victory and tie

The Presbyterian College softball team opened its inaugural Blue Hose Invitational with two games, and two different results – but no defeats.

PC got out of the gates strong with a 5-2 victory over Morgan State in the second game of the tournament (MSU lost to Akron in Game 1, 12-11). The Blue Hose got a solo homer from Courtney White and two RBI from Kiley Kross in support winning pitcher Alyssa Batastini, who went the distance in her first game with PC.

Batastini gave up just six hits and one earned run, striking out three.

Ashley Wilbanks was the only PC player with multiple hits in the game, picking up two hits.

Game two saw PC and Akron tie at 6-all after five innings. Jonnie Petree had two hits and scored once, while Grace Wallace had a double and drove in three runs.

Taylor Ward went 2 1-3 innings, giving up four runs on seven hits and one walk, striking out one, as PC’s starter. White went the final 2 2-3 innings, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk.

PC plays Morgan State again Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
