Betty Ruth Rountree Nelson

Laurens, South Carolina

Betty Ruth Rountree Nelson, 88, of Laurens, passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at Prisma Health Laurens County Hospital.

Born on June 6, 1937, in Laurens, she was the daughter of the late Frank Moore and Rosa Belle Knight Rountree.  Betty worked many years as a bookkeeper at Colonial Store, Ingles, and retired from Walmart.  In her early years, she loved to fish and dirt track racing.  Betty also loved taking her family on trips to Dollywood, creating cherished memories that will be treasured forever.  She could often be found at Hamricks, where she loved to shop.  Betty was a member of Lucas Avenue Baptist Church and made many memories traveling with her church family and friends.

She is survived by her children, Kelly Johnson of Gray Court, SC and Wesley H. Nelson of Powhatan, VA; grandchildren, Kerri Graham, Jeff Crowder (Devonie), Rachel Johnson, Colton Nelson, and Maddox Nelson; great-grandchildren, Cadance Byars, Madisyn Graham, Lainey Griffin, Kamden Patterson, Kaymbree Thomas, Keilee Thomas, and Ryan Crowder; and a great-great grandchild Eli Lambert.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a great-grandchild, Bradley Lambert.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Lucas Avenue Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Michael Post with burial to follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

The family will be at the home of Kerri Graham in Gray Court.
