Three locals make up Clinton manager finalist list
Clinton, South Carolina – Following
an executive session Monday night, Clinton City Council voted to have a brief special called meeting later this week to discuss the continued search for a city manager, which has been narrowed down to three local finalists.
“In our search for city manager, we started off with 69 applications, and the Municipal Association (of South Carolina) narrowed them down to about 10 and our plans were to interview the final five,” said Clinton Mayor Randy Randall.
Two of those finalists withdrew, leaving three who went through the interview process with council last Friday, Randall said,
“We want to make sure that we’re very open with the public,” Randall said. “The Municipal Association requires we make public the three finalists. Our three finalists we interviewed are Andy Howard, Joey Meadors and Will Riley.”
Currently Howard serves as Laurens County Director of Parks and Recreation, Meadors is the Clinton Director of Public Works and Riley is Clinton Assistant City Manager.
Council voted to have the special called meeting this Thursday, May 8, at 6 p.m. which is further related to the search for City Manager.
“We followed the Municipal Association’s and our labor lawyer’s rules,” Randall said following the meeting, adding that the Thursday evening meeting should be brief and an announcement is not expected at that time because a contract will have to be negotiated.
“We have three really good candidates,” he said, explaining the initial applicant pool was from within and outside South Carolina. The final group of 10 which closely met council’s requirements were brought before council by MASC, and they were from within the state.
