LDHS teacher arrested, fired by District 55

A Laurens District High School teacher accused of allowing students to use nicotine and THC products in her classroom was arrested following an investigation by the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office.
Miranda Burton Stone of Laurens was charged with unlawfully placing a child at risk or cause harm, four counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and providing tobacco to a minor under the age of 18.
The investigation began on Feb. 28 after allegations were presented to LDHS’s school resource officer. The LCSO said in a release that Stone allowed students to skip class in her classroom in addition to allowing them to use nicotine and THC products.
Stone was relieved of her duties by Laurens County School District 55 on March 4 and has since been fired by the district. She has since been released from the Laurens County Detention Center on bonds totaling $18,400.
