Hoops playoffs to begin Monday in Laurens, Clinton

Laurens hosts Berea in the first round of the Class 4A boys state playoffs at 7 p.m. Monday.
Both Laurens and Clinton will be hosting first-round playoff games as theSCHSL boys and girls basketball state tournaments get started Monday and Tuesday.
The LDHS boys, the No. 4 overall seed in the Class 4A Upper State bracket, will host No. 13 Berea (11-12) at 7 p.m. Monday. The Raiders finished the season with a 19-7 record.
The LDHS girls (12-13), the No. 10 seed in the Upper State, will travel to No. 7 Camden (16-6) at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
In a meeting of Red Devils, the Region 3-2A champion Clinton girls will host Liberty (5-18), the fifth-place team from Region 1-2A, at 6 p.m. Monday.
Clinton went unbeaten in Region 3 and finished with a 20-5 record.
In the boys bracket, Clinton (14-8) finished as the runner-up to Fairfield Central and is the No. 2 seed from Region 3-2A.
The Red Devils will host Saluda (15-6), the third-place finisher from Region 2. Saluda finished tied at 7-3 with Strom Thurmond in the Region 2 standings, one game behind champion Batesburg-Leesville.
Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday at Clinton.
In Class 1A, the Thornwell girls (6-10) made the playoff field with a 46-17 Region 1-1A win over Whitmire Wednesday and will travel to Region 2-1A champion Lee Central in Bishopville Tuesday.
Lee Central finished the season at 18-4 overall and was 12-0 in region play.

Sadie Bruyere and the LA girls begin the SCISA state tournament Monday following a first-round bye.
LA boys eliminated by Faith Christian
Three Faith Christian players scored in double figures to lead the Knights to a 57-39 victory over the Crusaders Saturday afternoon in the first round of the SCISA Class 2A boys basketball state tournament at Wilson Hall in Sumter.
Braydon Burke led the Crusaders with a game-high 17 points.
LA finished the season with a 7-18 record. Faith Christian improved to 14-11 and will face the Andrew Jackson-Lee Academy winner in the second round on Monday.
Crusaders earn bye, begin tourney play Monday
The Laurens Academy girls basketball team received an opening-round bye in the SCISA Class 2A playoffs and are set to face the winner of Saturday’s first-round game between Charleston Collegiate and Holy Trinity.
LA (16-7) will play Charleston Collegiate in the second round at 5 p.m. Monday at Cardinal Newman in Columbia. Charleston Collegiate defeated Holy Trinity Saturday.
