Red Devils battle: Clinton wraps up Region 1-2A title win win

Clinton RB Javen Cook ran for more than 100 yards and three touchdowns Friday night in a win at Liberty.
Javen Cook and Tushawan Richardson both turned in 100-yard rushing games as Clinton downed host Liberty 42-22 to claim the Region 1-2A championship Friday night.
Cook scored on runs of 9, 18 and 57 yards – all in the first half – as the Red Devils jumped out to a 22-7 lead by halftime.
Clinton moved down to Class 2A after the SCHSL’s realignment last year and have now won a Class2A title to go with the Red Devils’ collection earlier this year.
“It’s awesome for our guys and our coaches that prepared these guys,” said Clinton head coach Corey Fountain. “The guys went out and executed the game plan. I’m happy for our fans. We’ve got a lot more goals, but it starts with that region championship. The caveat that comes with that is as long as we can contend in the playoffs, we’ll be at home at Wilder Stadium.”
Richardson rushed four times for 111 yards and a touchdown and completed 3-of-4 passes for 91 yards and a score. Cook finished with 114 yards on seven rushes.
Clinton rolled up 416 yards of total offense, while Liberty finished with 310.
The Class 2A state playoffs are set to begin next Friday night. Pelion will visit Wilder Stadium for the opening round. The Panthers (2-8) received an at-large bid into the playoffs after finishing fifth in Region 2-2A.
