Sunie Marie Jackson Sumter

Sunie Marie Jackson Sumter, 73, of Columbia, South Carolina, passed away on October 2, 2024.  She was born in Edgefield and raised in Laurens SC.  A 1969 graduate of Thomas Sanders High School, she went on to attend Hampton University, Spelman College, and University of South Carolina.

Sunie is the widow of the late Samuel Sumter and daughter of the retired Laurens District 55 teachers, the late Samuel and Maria (McKie) Jackson. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Dana and sisters Mamie Jackson and Dr. Loretta (Alvin) Hicks.  She was also a loving aunt to her many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She will be remembered for her sweet spirit, kindness, and grace, which touched the lives of all who knew her.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Gunter’s Chapel Baptist Church, located at 1631 Windover Road, Columbia, South Carolina, 29204. Friends and family are welcome to join in celebrating Sunie’s life.
