SLED: Former detention center officer faces charges

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) on Tuesday officially charged a former officer at the Laurens County Detention Center with misconduct in office.

Ashley Landreth, 36, was charged with possessing and furnishing contraband in a county detention center and misconduct in office by a public official while working at the Laurens County Detention Center, which is operated as part of the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office.

The LCSO requested SLED open an investigation. According to warrants, SLED discovered that Landreth provided a cell phone to an inmate at the detention center that she used to communicate with the inmate between March 2024 and February 2025.

Landreth was booked into the detention center. The case will be prosecuted by the 8th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
