Spartanburg woman dies following I-26 crash

A Spartanburg woman involved in a crash on I-26 in Laurens County on Saturday, April 11 has died, and the man who allegedly caused the crash is in the Laurens County Detention Center.

Trinitee Hunter, 26, passed away Tuesday at Prisma Greenville Memorial Hospital, the Laurens County Coroner’s Office said.

Hunter was mortally injured in a multi-vehicle collision at Mile Marker 53 on I-26 around 9:30 p.m. on April 11.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, a sedan hit a pickup truck while driving eastbound on I-26, causing the pickup to jump cross the median, overturn and hit two vehicles playing westbound.

Hunter was flown by helicopter to Greenville Memorial where she later died.

SCHP Master Trooper Brandon Bolt said the driver of the sedan left the scene and was later arrested. Bishawn Bell, 34, of North Charleston, Bell is charged with one count of felony hit and run with death, two counts of hit and run with great bodily injury and one count of hit and run with minor bodily injury. He is being held in the Laurens County Detention Center without bond.

The driver of the pickup was also injured and flown to an area hospital, the SCHP said.

Hunter was flown by helicopter to Greenville Memorial where she later died.

The wreck is under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the coroner’s office.

Hunter was an organ donor, and a Walk of Honor was held Wednesday in recognition of that.
