NEWBERRY – Laurens Academy opened SCISA 8-man Region 1 play Friday night with a rain-soaked 42-14 victory at Newberry Academy.
The Crusaders (5-1 overall, 1-0 region) notched their second win over the Eagles this season. LA downed Newberry 30-14 in the season opener for both teams in August. The Eagles fell to 0-5 overall and 0-1 in region play.

Both teams fumbled the ball away two times apiece in the first quarter, but only LA was able to turn those turnovers into points.
LA opened up a 28-0 lead in the first half.
Caleb Hardy opened the scoring with a 4-yard touchdown run and added a 55-yard touchdown reception from Ethan Collins in the final seconds of the first quarter at LA jumped out to a 16-0 lead.
Collins added a 21-yard scoring pass to tight end Nathan Bell and a 38-yard touchdown scamper to close out the scoring in the second quarter.
The Crusaders host Wardlaw Academy (1-4) next Friday for Homecoming.
