LCSO’s Christmas for Kids program getting in gear

The elves working behind the scenes at the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office are making sure everyone who needs a helping hand this Christmas gets it.

The “Christmas for Kids” program annually provides gifts for those in need throughout the county, and organizer Courtney Snow said application process for this Christmas is in full swing.

Those with applications are asked to schedule their interviews in order to be considered for the program prior to the Dec. 2 deadline.

“Christmas for Kids is a special program for the sheriff’s office that has been going on for many years, and it gets better every year,” Snow said. “We love knowing that these children will wake up with toys and gifts on Christmas morning, and we thank the community for their help with that.”

Interviews are being scheduled now, but quite a few applications to be included in the program are still out and interviews need to be scheduled.

Applications are also still available at the LCSO headquarters on West Main Street in Laurens. In order to be considered for the program, some proof documents are required and an appointment must be scheduled, Snow said.

“If you’ve already picked up an application and completed it, we just need you to call to schedule your interview as soon as possible,” she said. “If you have that application, please go to the next step.”

The Christmas for Kids program annually serves over 300 children ages newborn to 14, but older special needs children are also taken into consideration.

Donations are also still being accepted for the program as are sponsors for children in need.

Anyone interested in donating funds can do so by donating directly at LCSO headquarters or through Venmo at @laurenscountysheriff. The program also accepts new, unwrapped toys, clothing and other applicable items.

Snow said those interested in sponsoring a child can call her at 864-681-4509.
