Main Street Laurens seeks performers for Friday’s Laurens’s Got Talent

Laurens’s Got Talent is returning this month and Main Street Laurens is seeking applicants for this upcoming Finally Friday, planned for 6 p.m. Friday, July 26 at The Plaza.

“We have spaces for nine contestants aged 16 and older, and we are asking people to sign up by sending me a direct message on the Main Street Laurens Facebook page telling me they are interested,” said Main Street Laurens Director Craig Scharton, “and I’ll send them a reply with instructions.”

Scharton said the event is being organized by Rick Hartman, who runs the sound equipment and will take care of the music, Scharton said.

While other talent is allowed, the sound system will primarily be set up for karaoke style singers.

“Right now we’re keeping it simple,” he said. “Just a message of interest on Facebook messenger and I’ll get the rest to them.”

Scharton said after the long hot summer, when the early part of the Friday evenings could be quite warm, the recent rains are providing relief from the heat but the weather is a bit more precarious now.

This past weekend’s planned performance of Country Music singer Alex Key had to be postponed, and it was a good call, Scharton said, because there was a significant downpour that evening.

At this point, the Finally Friday activities are planned for 6 p.m., Scharton said, and will likely include a brief performance by dancers from Studio 55 just ahead of the Laurens Got Talent contestants.

The following week, Aug. 2, downtown businesses will be hosting Main Street Laurens’ night of South Carolina Craft Beer Tasting from 6 to 9 p.m., and $10 tickets can be purchased on the mainstreetlaurens.org website.

Music for the evening of Aug. 2 will be performed by Vinyl, with its mix of classic rock from the ‘60s through the ‘80s, and Big Air Trampoline Park games will be on the square for children and families.
