Laurens Square hosts fashion show, C&W music Friday and Historic Quilts at Museum on Saturday
Laurens, South Carolina – The Laurens Square will be busy
again this weekend as Main Street Laurens’ Finally Friday! takes over Pedestrian Plaza Friday evening and the Laurens County Museum opens its Exhibit of Historic Quilts of Laurens County at 10 a.m. Saturday morning.
Main Street merchants are hosting a Paris in Laurens Fashion Show at 6 p.m., followed about 6:30 with music by Exit 83, a Spartanburg-based country and western Band.
The June 21 fashion show will feature models wearing clothing and accessories by Sarabeth Jordan Boutique, Thomason Jewelers, Designs by D and other downtown merchants. Hairstyles by stylists from The Vault and Salon on Main will complete the look for each of the models. Exit 83 will then take center stage as the live music part of the June 21 schedule of activities, all on the Pedestrian Plaza in downtown Laurens.
On Saturday, quilts created as many as 170 years ago will be among those displayed when the Laurens County Museum hosts the Antique Quilt Exhibit beginning Saturday.
The extensive collection of quilts will include one on loan from the South Carolina State Museum, which was created by Andrew Johnson for Sara Word Hance during the time Johnson, a tailor, lived in Laurens
years before becoming the 17th President of the U.S.
He assumed the presidency following the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln.
The Historic Quilt Exhibit of Laurens County Quilts will be on view throughout much of the summer.
Museum hours are Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. and visits to the exhibition are free.
During this time staff will also be selling tickets for a quilt raffle from June 22-Aug. 31. The raffle winner will receive a quilt created by the local Loose Threads Quilt Guild and additional workshops are also available.
