Law enforcement responds to false active shooter claim at LDHS

For the third time in two weeks, local law enforcement responded to a threat of a firearm-related incident on the Laurens District High School campus.

According to the Laurens Police Department, a caller on the administrative line at the LPD said there was an active shooter at LDHS.

“Officers responded to the high school and quickly determined that there was no active threat. Out of an abundance of caution Laurens Police checked all the schools inside the city limits as well as sent officers to the high school to assist the Sheriff’s Office in securing that location,” a release from the LPD read.

Two other social media posts involving LDHS students two weeks ago falsely claimed a student had brought a gun onto campus. Those claims were false.

The LPD said similar calls were made across South Carolina

“Currently, there are no viable threats to any district 55 or 56 schools and officers are now investigating the source of the original called-in threat as it now appears that similar calls were made across South Carolina,” the release said.
