Neighbors United FCU Expands to Serve Six Additional Counties, Including Laurens County
Neighbors United Extends Reach to nearly 250,000 People
GREENWOOD, S.C. – Neighbors United Federal Credit Union, has extended service offerings across the Piedmont region. The 61-year-old credit union, which has served all of Greenwood County since 2006, has been approved by the National Credit Union Association to serve six additional counties: Laurens, Edgefield, Abbeville, Newberry, Saluda, and McCormick.
Neighbors United aims to have a measurable economic impact in a region that has seen other financial institutions pulling out of the market or not willing to serve the underserved. The credit union offers solutions to pay less for loans, earn more on deposits and pay fewer fees.
“This charter expansion further cements Neighbors United as the financial institution for improving one’s quality of life,” said CEO Elizabeth Orama. “From locking in lower rates on auto loans, personal loans, credit cards and mortgages, to helping members find a more affordable payment, to also teaching healthy financial habits, we look forward to building lasting relationships in our newest of communities.”
With Neighbors United expansion plans, the credit union want to raise public awareness of smart low-interest loan alternatives. Many banks provide loans to those with only good credit ratings. Meanwhile, predatory lenders often present unfair terms. Neighbors United has the resources to provide financial coaching across all demographics, including Spanish-speaking populations.
Over the past five years (2016-2021), Neighbors United has grown assets by 46.5% and membership has risen 26.56% over the same period.
“We are thrilled to be able to expand service to seven counties, and with robust online and mobile banking – plus a simple online loan application process – we make banking easy,” Orama said.
