Library closes due to broken AC, extreme heat

The Laurens Library will close at 1:00 pm on Friday, July 19 and will be closed on Saturday, July 20 due to broken air conditioning at the library. Director Ann Szypulski said,

“Four out of six of our air conditioning units are out of service, and with the extreme heat expected this afternoon and tomorrow, I feel it would be unsafe for our staff and for the patrons to remain open,” said Szypulski.

The library will reopen Monday morning. Decisions about further closings will be made on a day-to-day basis.

Szypulski encourages patrons to use the Clinton Branch Library at 107 Jacobs Highway, (864) 833-1853.

Good i hope the county will do something about this. That air conditioning has been ridiculously hot for quite awhile now. I dont even take my granddaughter there anymore in the summer it is too hot for her. I went in just a few weeks ago to get books and it was so hot i was sweaty and wet on my shirt when i left. I dont know how the employees can stand it. They did have some fans but all it was doing was blowing hot air. They have money for everything else it is time for the county to buy some new air conditioners for this building so everyone can enjoy it and get some use out of it and the employees dont have to suffer. My daughter in law called someone awhile back about the heat when i told her.
