Raiders, Red Devils both suffer blowouts

The Laurens Raiders and Clinton Red Devils had long rides home from their road contests Friday night.

Laurens held an early 14-10 lead on the Westside Rams before giving up 56 straight points in what eventually was a 66-21 loss that dropped the Raiders to 2-4 overall, 1-2 in Region 1-5A.

Traye Smith led the Rams with 10 catches for 239 yards and three touchdowns in the victory. Laurens quarterback Ryan Campbell was 3 for 8 passing for 111 yards and a touchdown in the loss.

At Union, the Yellow Jackets did not allow Clinton any points until a Navill Watson 1-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter, but all that did was help the Red Devils avoid a shutout loss as they were routed 62-7.

Clinton was held to 100 yards of total offense on 48 plays, while UC scored two defensive touchdowns.

Laurens hosts Woodmont Friday, while Clinton (1-5, 0-1 Region 3-3A) hosts Mid-Carolina.
