Absentee voting open for District 55 decision

Absentee voting open for school bond referendum
Absentee voting for the District 55 Bond Referendum is currently underway, according to Lynne West, director of the Board of Voter Registration and Elections of Laurens County.
Since the referendum date is Sept. 5, applications that have to be mailed should go into the mail as soon as possible.
Applications for absentee ballots can be submitted now by mail or by going to the office of the Board of Voter Registration on the first floor of the Historic Courthouse in downtown Laurens.
Applications are also available online at
https://www.scvotes.org/absentee-voting.
With the Labor Day holiday approaching, West said, voters who need an absentee voter option should be aware that the office will be closed Monday, Sept. 4, so the applications actually need to be in by Friday, Sept. 1.
West said there has been some confusion as to who can vote.
“Only qualified voters who reside in the School District 55 area are eligible to vote in this election,” West said. “Just because a precinct is open doesn’t mean everyone in that precinct is eligible.”
County residents can go to the GIS maps or check the school district information on their original voter registration card, she added.
GIS maps are available at http://www.laurenscountygis.org, and anyone can call the office at 984-4431.
“Remember, the Registration & Elections office will be closed on Monday, Sept. 4, for the Labor Day holiday, so the last day for walk-in absentee voting will be Friday, Sept. 1,” West said.
