Laurens 11-12s win again, earn day off

The Laurens 11-12 Little League All-Star baseball team earned a welcome day off after winning its second straight game to open the state tournament Sunday in Taylors.

Laurens used a six-run second inning and a three-run third to build a lead that Tega Cay-Fort Mill could not overcome, rolling to a 12-5 decision that puts the squad into a winner’s bracket game Tuesday night Greenville, which won 21-1 over Summerville in Sunday’s second game.

TC-FM will play Mid-Carolina in an elimination game Monday, with the winner playing in another elimination game Wednesday.

Mason Hamby had two hits, scored twice, and drove in two runs, while also picking up the victory on the mound. Hamby went 2 2-3 innings, allowing two runs on two hits.

Griffin Abell had two hits, including a triple, and two RBI. Abell scored on the triple following an errant throw out of center field.
