Raiders open playoffs on right foot

The Laurens Raiders’ football team took care of business in the first round of the SCHSL Class 5A playoffs Friday night, rolling past Woodmont 35-7 at K.C. Hanna Stadium.

Laurens (6-5) scored touchdowns on the first two possessions of the second half, turning what had been a 14-7 lead into a 28-7 advantage that effectively put the game out of reach. Laurens held Woodmont to eight first downs and 108 total yards of offense in winning the team’s first playoff game in eight years.

With the victory Laurens advanced to the second round, where it will host Spartanburg. The Vikings advanced with a 42-28 victory over Clover.

In other action, Clinton saw its 2016 season end with a 24-16 loss to Chester in the Class 3A playoffs. The Red Devils finish with a record of 5-6.
