    The Foothills Philharmonic Orchestra continues its 2021-22 season at the Edward R. Driggers City of Greer Center for the Arts 804 Trade Street, Greer, SC 29651, Saturday, April 9, 2022, at 7:00 p.m. with the Chamber Selections Concert. All of Foothills’ concerts are free and general admission to the public. The program includes selected compositions by different composers, prepared and performed by different chamber ensembles within Foothills Philharmonic.
    Performing in Greenville since 2000, Foothills Philharmonic is committed to providing high-quality, classical music performances to the Upstate community free of charge. The orchestra is an all-volunteer orchestra made up of accomplished non-professional musicians from the Upstate region of South Carolina. Orchestra membership includes individuals from many walks of life including part-time musicians, teachers, lawyers, business professionals, and homemakers. Kory Vrieze is the Orchestra’s Artistic Director and Conductor. Membership in the Foothills Philharmonic is open to amateur and professional musicians. Training in youth orchestra, college orchestra, or professional orchestra, in the Greenville Concert Band or an equivalent band is suggested as necessary experience.   • “Historic Preservation: One Step Closer to Social Justice”

    The WeGOJA Foundation will host its annual Cultural and Historic Preservation Conference April 20-21 in Columbia, S.C. Under the theme “Historic Preservation: One Step Closer to Social Justice,” the conference explores the link between the accurate re-telling of history and the pursuit of social justice.

    Highlights include a welcoming reception at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, at the African American monument on the State House grounds. On Thursday, the conference highlight will be a plenary address by Brent Leggs, Senior Vice President of the National Trust for Historic Preservation and Executive Director of the African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund. Following the plenary, discussions will be led by some of the state’s leading historians on the connection between historic preservation and social justice.

    The annual Preserving Our Places in History awards ceremony will be held during the conference’s luncheon. Outstanding achievements in 2021 toward preserving and promoting African American history in South Carolina will be recognized at this event.

  • Season Finale: Mainstage Orchestra Series: Pops Celebration

    The Foothills Philharmonic Orchestra concludes its 2021-22 season at the Riverside Baptist 1249 S. Suber Rd Greer, SC 29650, Saturday, April 30, 2022, at 7:00 p.m. with the Pops Celebration Concert and Instrument Petting Zoo (7:00pm). All of Foothills’ concerts are free and general admission to the public. Refreshments will be provided following the performance at our reception where people can meet and greet the performers. The concert includes popular music favorites from movies, classical music, and television shows. In addition, we will be holding an instrument petting zoo open for all children before the concert. At this event, children of all ages will be able to try out the different instruments of the orchestra as we work to encourage the next generation to pursue music studies on an orchestral instrument.
