Poole wins District 4 runoff, Stumbo takes GOP nomination for attorney general

Jimmy Poole
Jimmy Poole won the Republican nomination for the District 4 seat on Laurens County Council in Tuesday’s primary runoff election.
The lifelong Laurens County resident defeated Lonnie Wilson with 53.35% of the vote, 773-676.
“I want to say congratulations to my opponent on a great campaign, and I want the folks in Cross Hill and Waterloo to know that I heard them loud and clear, and I won’t disappoint them,” said Poole, who works as a vice-president at ProCore Pest Control.
There is no Democratic challenger for the District 4 seat, which is currently occupied by former Council Chairman Brown Patterson.
Poole said the most pivotal issue facing county leaders is growth and how to best control it.
Just before 9:45 p.m., the Associated Press projected 8th Circuit Solicitor David Stumbo as the winner for the GOP nomination for South Carolina Attorney General.

Eighth Circuit Solicitor David Stumbo as he announced his candidacy for S.C. Attorney General earlier this year at the Laurens County Museum.
Stumbo was second-highest vote getter in the June 9 primary, but had a 9-point lead (54%-45%) over Horry County attorney and state Sen. Stephen Goldfinch as results came in later in the evening.
At that point, Stumbo led Goldfinch by around 31,000 votes, 155,776-124,788.
The gubernatorial race was called early by several media outlets that projected Attorney General Alan Wilson, who opened up an early lead over Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette. as the winner. Evette had initially received an endorsement from President Donald Trump, but Trump changed course this past week and also endorsed Wilson.
With about half of precincts across the state reporting, Wilson led Evette by more than 35 points and 50,000 votes. He delivered an acceptance speech in Columbia just before 8:30 p.m.
“Our No. 1 goal is to make living in our state more affordable,” Wilson said. “To make our economy more friendly to businesses and to promote transparency in government.”
Wilson will face Democratic Rep. Jermaine Johnson in November’s general election.
Cody Simpson also was on his way to an apparent landslide victory over Danny Ford II in the Republican runoff for state agriculture commissioner.
