PC golf headed to Charlotte’s Bermuda Run for NCAA Regional

Presbyterian golfer Spence Hagood has had a memorable past week or so in the sport.

Last week, Hagood recorded the match-clinching victories in the Big South Championship match-play finals and semifinals, helping the Blue Hose to their first NCAA Division I Regionals appearance.

Then on Wednesday, Hagood, a Greenwood native, recorded a hole-in-one on the par-3 No. 6 hole at Lakeside Country Club a short time after he and his PC teammates found out they are heading to Charlotte’s Bermuda Run Golf Club when the NCAA Regionals are held May 18-20. PC is the No. 14 seed out of 14 teams at the Bermuda Run regional.

PC held a viewing party at Lakeside for the NCAA Regionals Selection Show, which was broadcast on The Golf Channel, and just a short time later Hagood and his teammates were on the course when the junior scored the ace on No. 6.

At Bermuda Run, PC will join four ACC teams led by top-seeded Virginia, No. 4 Georgia Tech, No. 6 Wake Forest and No. 9 N.C. State in the field. The regional also features No. 2 Ole Miss, No. 7 Mississippi State and No. 10 Kentucky from the SEC along with fifth-seeded Southern Cal of the Big Ten, No. 3 Pepperdine, No. 8 Arkansas-Little Rock, No. 11 Houston, No. 12 Richmond and No. 13 Navy.

The top five finishing teams at each of six regionals and the lowest individual on a non-advancing team clinch a trip to the NCAA National Championship, played at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California, May 29-June 3.

Even though PC is making its first appearance in an NCAA Division I Regional, Big South Player of the Year Jeep Patrick competed in last year’s Auburn Regional after winning the Big South Individual title as a freshman.
