LPD investigation leads to attempted murder arrest

A Laurens man recently released from state prison was arrested Thursday and charged by the Laurens Police Department with attempted murder in connection with a May 6 shooting.

According to the LPD, Tevin “Stank” O’Neil Brown was taken into custody Tuesday and charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, possession of a weapon by a person convicted of certain crimes, and breach of peace aggravated in nature.

He was booked into the Laurens County Detention Center and has been denied bond.

The LPD said officers responded to the area of Sullivan Street and Bub Avenue in response to reports of a shooting on Tuesday, May 6.

A gunshot victim with an abdomen wound was found in a small field. The victim was taken to to a hospital by Life Flight helicopter.
LPD detectives and officers identified Brown as a suspect in the shooting, leading to his arrest a week later.

The LPD said Brown was charged in 2020 with two counts of attempted murder after he shot two people. He pleaded guilty to reduced charges of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature and sentenced to five years in prison, but served around three years of that sentence.

According to news reports, Brown also escaped custody in 2018 while being escorted to a holding area following an arrest. Then, he had been arrested on domestic violence charges. He was recaptured a week later in Greenville.
