Animal Shelter part of Pick Me! SC, hopes to alleviate overcrowding

The Laurens County Animal Shelter is participating in Pick Me! SC, a free adoption even going on now through Saturday.

The Laurens County Animal Shelter is currently participating in the Pick Me! SC statewide adoption event.

During Pick Me! SC, adoption fees are waived for all animals, which have been spayed or neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and treated with heartworm and flea and tick preventatives.

And it couldn’t have come at a better time.

Laurens County Animal Control Sgt. Geoff Brown said the shelter is currently well beyond capacity, and he is hoping Pick Me! SC will help urge potential adopters to come to the shelter and find a new best friend.

“We want to get the dogs adopted so that we’re not overcrowded, and so that we can serve the community the way we need to,” Brown said.

Currently, the shelter is so overcrowded that it cannot take in strays.

“We literally have no room to take anything in,” Brown said.

With Pick Me! SC, the local shelter will have extended adoption hours through Saturday.

The shelter is open for adoptions from noon-5 p.m. through Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Other times are available by appointment.

The Laurens County Sheriff’s Office’s Polar Patrol ice cream truck will be at the shelter from 2:30-3:30 p.m. Tuesday with pup cups for pups and ice cream for their two-legged friends.
