Driver killed in single-car I-26 crash

A driver traveling alone on I-26 in Laurens County died Friday night died after crashing into the median cable barrier near mile marker 47.

The accident occurred around 8:45 p.m. According to South Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway, the driver of a 2015 Chevrolet pickup was traveling westbound on I-26, traveled off the right side of the road, overcorrected and careened into the median cable barrier.

Laurens County Coroner’s Office identified the victim of James W. Smoak, 58, of Columbus, North Carolina.

    Why don’t they pull phone records to see if all of these cars veering off of the road are texting. I think they probably are.
