Lexington ends Clinton’s Junior Legion season
Lexington Post 7 swept Clinton Post 56 out of the American Junior Legion state playoffs Tuesday with a 4-2 victory in Lexington, ending the three-game opening-round series.
Clinton starter Wil Stewart gave up six hits over 5 1/3 innings of work, allowing only two earned runs as Lexington was aided by three Clinton errors. With the game tied at 2-2, Lexington scored two runs in the sixth inning to take the lead for good.
A two-run homer by Lexington’s Brayden Jeffcoat in the sixth proved to be the difference. Jeffcoat went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored.
Five different players had base hits for Clinton. Zack McLendon’s base hit was a double for Clinton’s only extra base hit of the game.
Clinton trailed 2-0 after four innings, but battled back to tie the game at 2-2 in the fifth on RBI singles from Bryce Young and Tyler Kyko.
Lexington won a 1-0 pitcher’s duel Monday night to take a 1-0 lead in the series in Clinton.
Clinton ended its season at 6-6.
