Bell resigns, LA again searching for football coach

Stacy Bell

Laurens Academy is once again searching for a new head coach for its varsity 8-man football program.

Stacy Bell, who was hired in May from Heathwood Hall, resigned Sunday without coaching a game at LA. Bell had been Heathwood Hall’s defensive coordinator.

LA Athletic Director Travis Plowden said Bell informed him of the decision during a Sunday phone call. Bell resigned to take a position at another school, Plowden said.

Plowden did not say where Bell would be coaching, and Bell’s social media accounts had no updates.

LA will now turn its attention to finding another head coach to replace Bell and Todd Kirk. Kirk, the school’s headmaster, resigned his varsity coaching duties to focus more attention on his administrative duties at LA. He will coach the LA Middle School team this fall.

“Football workouts will continue as scheduled for varsity and middle school,” Plowden said in an email. “I have been extremely pleased with the participation this summer and we will make every effort to find the highest quality replacement for Coach Bell.”
