Clinton may soon see new restaurant, Starbucks

Clinton, S.C. – Earlier this week an official with the City of Clinton had verified that two new unnamed restaurants were planning to locate near the I-26 and Hwy. 72 interchange, and now one of them appears to be Starbucks, judging from an agenda item for Clinton City Council’s regular March meeting this upcoming Monday, March 7.

Two separate businesses have been working to prepare for building on different private lots near the intersection of Highway 72 and West and East Corporate Park drives, said Clinton Economic Development Corporation Manager Marvin Moss when asked about the possible restaurants.

An agenda item for Clinton City Council’s regular March meeting Monday evening calls for the recommendation  “to annex property into city limits for new Starbucks location located at Hwy. 72 E at the E. Corporate Center Dr.”

Earlier this week the City of Clinton had not specified exactly which restaurants were considering coming to the interchange, but had verified when asked that two were in the works for the East and West Corporate Drive and Hwy 72 E intersection.

Neither business was recruited by the City of Clinton or by the CEDC, said Moss, but rather through efforts of a commercial real estate firm and two private landowners.

“The businesses are in the final stages of completing their due diligence and I expect that we’ll be able to make a full announcement in a couple of weeks,” Moss said on Monday regarding the two restaurants.

This is the same general location of the Zaxby’s and Arby’s on Hwy. 72 and not far from QT. However, until official announcements are made, Moss said, the “plans are not set in stone.”

Starbuck’s brought NOTHING to Ingle’s in Laurens nor anything to the City of Newberry. Their corporation is too “woke” vs South Carolina values and their coffee simply tastes bad. I don’t buy a product to walk around with the companies logo on it. Put your/OUR $$$ where your mouth is Chamber of Commerce and SUPPORT LOCAL like you keep telling us too!

Quit lambasting businesses that come into our town. Just because you and 100’s of others don’t care for the coffee doesn’t mean the rest of us dislike it. Every time I go in Ingles, there is a line for their beverages. Somebody must like it!! You are free to patronize any other coffee venue located around.

The Chamber of Commerce supports small businesses that are in place. It does not recruit retail business here.
      Thanks.

Robert, the city has no say in what commercial businesses want to come to our area. If the land is zoned that way, the city cannot pick and choose.

We need more businesses to come to Clinton to create more jobs! I would love to see more eateries here hopefully a steak house and a Italian eatery. Give Fatz Cafe and The Blue Ocean some competition. Fatz food is mediocre at best and service is the same. New businesses will get the old ones to step up their game and have better food and better service. Same old same old all the time. Need variety like Greenville,Greenwood and Spartanburg.
