Gunfire on West Main leads to LPD arrest
Laurens Police arrested a Laurens man shortly after noon Tuesday after several shots were fired in the vicinity of Pinehaven and West Main streets in downtown Laurens.
Jessie Gerrod Goggins, 42, was charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime after he allegedly fired a semi-automatic handgun at another individual.
According to an LPD Facebook update, Goggins still had the handgun in his possession when he was arrested a short time after the shots were reportedly fired.
LPD Lt. Scott Franklin said witnesses reported hearing several shots fired but investigators found only one shell casing. No one was injured during the shooting.
Both nearby Laurens Elementary and E.B. Morse Elementary were placed on “lockout,” meaning no one was allowed on campus after the incident was reported, but the lockout was lifted soon after the arrest was made.
The incident is still under investigation by the LPD.
