Person dies in I-385 crash early Sunday morning

An car crash Sunday morning on I-385 South near Exit 22 just inside the Laurens County line claimed the life of one motorist and sent another to the hospital.

According to South Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper Brandon Bolt, the crash occurred just after 6 a.m.

Bolt said the driver of a 2019 Ford F-150 pickup was traveling south on I-385 when he was struck head-on by a 2016 Toyota Corolla that was traveling north in the southbound lane.

The pickup overturned and caught fire, and its driver was taken to a local hospital by EMS personnel.

The driver of the Corolla was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. That person’s identity has not been released by the Laurens County Coroner’s Office.

The accident remains under investigation by the SCHP.
