Arrest made in murder of Fountain Inn woman

Timothy Paul Spencer

Authorities have made an arrest in the disappearance and murder of a Fountain Inn woman whose body was discovered Tuesday in a wooded area in Starr.

Timothy Paul Spencer of Anderson has been charged with the murder of Billie Jean Cross of Fountain Inn. Cross, 58, was reported missing by family members on Dec. 10. She had last been seen a day earlier.

Spencer was taken into custody by investigators from the Greenville County Sheriff’s Department on unrelated fraud charges and subsequently charged with the murder of Cross. More charges are pending, according the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office.

The LCSO said the investigation is still ongoing.

“This is the result of intense and dedicated work by both the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office and the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office,” said Laurens County Sheriff Don Reynolds. “I am very grateful for this working relationship. My thoughts and prayers are still with the family of Ms. Cross.”
