2 Laurens brothers killed in I-385 shooting, crash

The deaths of two brothers from Laurens early Sunday morning on I-385 is being investigated by Greenville area police as a homicide.

According to a report from the Greenville County Coroner’s Office, Rashon Javarous Irby, 29, and his brother Andrekus Davarous Irby, 31, were pronounced dead at the scene of a wreck and shooting incident around 2:45 Sunday morning. Sunday was Andrekus Irby’s birthday.

Both men are from Laurens and appeared to be traveling from Laurens County on I-385 northbound near mile marker 30 at Old Stage Road.

According to reports, the two cars were traveling toward Greenville from Laurens when shots were fired prior to the crash and after an apparent altercation between the Irby brothers and the occupants of another vehicle.

After the shooting, those two vehicles were involved in a crash with a third vehicle, according to reports.

Investigators said weapons were found at the scene along with a “number of spent shells and projectiles.”

In addition to the two men who were killed, two other people were injured in the incident. One of those injured was reported to be in critical condition.

Officials said the crime scene was a “half-mile to three-quarters of a mile long.”

In addition to the time taken to clear the crash site, all lanes of I-385 North were closed for more than 12 hours Sunday as police investigated the large crime scene. The highway reopened around 3 p.m. Sunday.
