Former Laurens District High standout offensive lineman Summie Carlay recently entered the NCAA’s transfer portal and will transfer from the University of South Carolina.
Both GoGamecocks.com and TheBigSpur.com reported the move earlier this week.
Carlay, 6-5, 285 pounds, is listed in the portal as a graduate transfer and will have two years of eligibility remaining. He will be able to play immediately at his new school.
Reached by Twitter Monday night, Carlay had no comment on the move, preferring to keep matters private for now.
Carlay, a former three-star recruit at LDHS (’16), played in all 12 games for the Gamecocks this past season. He chose South Carolina over offers from Coastal Carolina and N.C. State.
He is among six Gamecocks to transfer from the program in 2020, including former quarterback Jake Bentley, who will continue his career at Utah, and offensive lineman Jordon Carty, who is headed to Bethune-Cookman.
Carlay was a sports and entertainment management major and three-time SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll recipient while at South Carolina.
His younger brother, Wes Carlay, just finished his freshman year at The Citadel where he plays for the Bulldogs.
