Clinton girls’ basketball team ousted in first round

The Clinton girls’ basketball team saw its 2018-19 season come to a disappointing end Monday night at Southside, losing 40-33 in Greenville.

The loss sent Clinton’s record to a final mark of 17-6.

Clinton went 13 minutes without a field goal from the first quarter through the entire second quarter, ending with 5 minutes, 55 seconds to go in the third quarter on a three-point play from Terriauna Bennett. Until Bennett’s score, however, Clinton fell behind by as much as 24 points.

The Red Devils did storm back, however, and got back within seven at 38-31 late in the fourth quarter, but Southside’s lead proved too much to overcome.

De’Shanti Watts had 11 points to lead the Clinton cause.
