Raiders, Crusaders lose, Red Devils win
All three area prep football teams had their homecoming games Friday night, but only one came away with a victory.
Laurens turned the ball over four times and gave up 34 unanswered points to the Woodmont Wildcats, resulting in a 34-20 loss that dropped the Raiders to 2-5 overall and 1-3 in the Region 1-5A standings. The loss, Laurens’ third straight also leaves the team in sixth place in the region standings – one spot out of an automatic berth in the playoffs. The top five teams in the region standings will make the playoffs.
Shamare Dendy had the highlight play for Laurens in the game, rushing for a 99-yard touchdown in the first quarter to give the Raiders an early 7-0 lead.
Laurens visits Mann Friday.
LA: The Crusaders suffered a 57-18 loss to Richard Winn in their homecoming game. LA fell to 2-5 overall, 2-2 in the region.
Thomas Lowry threw three touchdown passes in the game for LA in a losing cause.
Laurens Academy visits Jefferson Davis Friday.
Clinton: Navill Watson threw two touchdown passes for Clinton, and the Red Devils’ defense held Mid-Carolina to minus-6 yards rushing, as CHS won 21-7 to end a three-game skid.
Clinton is now 2-5 overall, 1-1 in Region 3-3A.
Darien Bailey rushed for 103 yards for Clinton, which visits Newberry Friday.
Editor’s note: The story has been corrected to note Watson threw both touchdown passes for Clinton.
