John Boyd Armstrong, age 89, of 13510 Highway 76 West, husband of Nannie Knight Armstrong, passed away Saturday, September 22, 2018, at his home.
Born in the Dials Community of Gray Court, S.C., he was a son of the late Samuel B. and Annie Baldwin Armstrong. John retired from JP Stevens Watts Plant and was a member of Friendship Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder, Deacon, and choir member. He served as an officer in the Hickory Tavern Lions Club. Passionate about his faith in God, his family and community, John had a servant’s heart and loved to help others.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 71 years are two children, Keith Armstrong and wife Robyn and Kim Armstrong Wallace and husband Andy, all of Hickory Tavern; one sister, Sara Manley of Gray Court; four grandchildren, Jason Armstrong and wife Dana, Heather Armstrong Smith and husband Billy, Drew Wallace and wife Kathryn, and Brad Wallace; and six great-grandchildren, Reed, Collins, Noah, Marianne, Weston, and Orlando.
In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by four sisters and four brothers.
Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 25, 2018, at Friendship Presbyterian Church conducted by Dr. Robert D. Cathcart, Jr., Rev. Paul Sanders, and Rev. Roger Sowder with burial in the church cemetery.
The family will be at the residence and will receive friends in the fellowship hall immediately following the service.
