Laurens, Clinton fall, while LA wins second straight

Friday night was not a successful one for the Laurens or Clinton varsity football teams, but Laurens Academy sure isn’t complaining.

Laurens fell 28-17 Friday night at Greenwood, falling to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in Region 1-5A. Running back Duane Martin rushed for 119 yards on 16 carries for the Raiders, while running back Shamare Dendy threw a 41-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Woodruff that gave the Raiders an early 7-0 lead.

Ryan Campbell added a 1-yard touchdown run in the third quarter for Laurens, which visits Westside Friday.

Clinton, meanwhile, gave up 508 yards on defense to Pendleton and ended up falling 39-6 on the road. The loss dropped the Red Devils to 1-4 entering Region 3-3A play next week.

Konnor Richardson was 6 of 17 passing for 67 yards for Clinton, while Darien Bailey rushed for the team’s lone touchdown on a 2-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Clinton visits Union County this coming Friday.

Laurens Academy, after losing its first three games of the season, has now come back with two straight victories in region play. The second came Friday when the Crusaders picked up a 52-32 victory over Calhoun Academy at Kirk Field.

LA will be back in action Friday when it takes on host Clarendon Hall.
