1-year-old dies after bathtub drowning

A 1-year-old child from Clinton died Wednesday, eight days after being found drowning and unresponsive in a bathtub.

Logan Wade Sumeral was pronounced dead at 4:54 p.m. Wednesday after remaining on life support for more than a week. An autopsy was performed Thursday and confirmed drowning as the cause of death, according to Laurens County Deputy Coroner Vickie Cheek.

The boy’s mother, Kimberly Ann Collins, 28, and her husband, Joshua Shane Collins, 30, have both been charged with unlawful neglect of a child. Joshua Collins was arrested by deputies from the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office after the child was discovered in the tub on Tuesday, Aug. 14. Kimberly Ann Collins was arrested Wednesday. Both remained in the Johnson Detention Center Thursday morning.

Extended family members and friends are holding a fundraiser for funeral expenses for the little boy, who was nicknamed “Peanut,” Saturday night at the Laurens County Speedway.

The fundraiser will include an auction of donated items from local businesses and race teams, a bake sale and a dunking booth.
