Virginia M. Lewis

Charlotte, N.C. – Virginia McCuen Lewis, 102, passed away on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at Sharon Towers Retirement Center.

Virginia was born and raised in Laurens, S.C. She went to Winthrop College and graduated with a degree in Music Education. She and J. Wesley Lewis, also from Laurens, dated while she was in college and Wesley was at Clemson. They married at the First Presbyterian Church in Laurens in 1940.

Virginia was a tireless servant to God, her church, and her family. She served as President of the Women of the Church in Presbyterian churches in Kannapolis, Durham, and Charlotte, N.C. At Myers Park Presbyterian Church, she was also a deacon, an elder and a member of the bell choir.

Virginia is survived by her three children, Ginny, John, and Bob and their families. Ginny lives in Charlotte at Sharon Towers. John lives in Rutherfordton, N.C., and has two sons, Wesley and Miller. Bob lives in Burlington, N.C., and has two daughters, Ann Brady and her husband David and their new daughter Lenoir. Bob’s other daughter Virginia and her husband Patrick live in Charlotte. Virginia has always loved helping her family and motivating each one to serve their families, their church, and their communities.

A graveside service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Westview Memorial Park in Laurens, S.C.

The service to celebrate Virginia’s life will be held at Harry & Bryant, 500 Providence Rd., Charlotte at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 4, 2018. Friends will be received following the service.
