Ralph Lynn, Jr.

October 26th, 1919 – March 16th, 2018

Ralph Lynn, Jr, 98 years of age, residing at 203 Tomahawk Lane, Laurens, S.C., departed this earth on March 16, 2018 at approximately 10: 40 a.m. Ralph was born in the farmhouse on the Lynn family farm. He exhaled his final breath while in the tender care of the Hospice of Laurens County. Ralph relinquished life suddenly and peacefully.  He was a member of Central Presbyterian Church in Massillon, Ohio.

Ralph defended his nation as 1st Lt. Ralph Lynn, Jr. during World War II. He served with distinction in the 8th Army Air Force, 466th Heavy Bombardment Group. He flew as Co-Pilot in the B-24 Liberator “Our Baby”. The last surviving crew member of “Our Baby” is the Radio Operator, Bill Martin of Grantsville, Maryland. For his dedication above and beyond the call of duty, 1st. Lt. Lynn was awarded The Distinguished Flying Cross, The Air Medal with three gold oak leaf clusters and The French Jubilee Medal of Liberty (posthumously).

Upon returning to civilian life, Ralph continued his education and received his Master’s Degree from Emporia State Teacher’s College in Emporia, Kansas. He began work on his doctorate at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois.  Ralph began employment with Scott, Foresman and Company as a Textbook Sales Representative for the Ohio area.

Ralph was a member of numerous organizations, including the Masons, Order of the eastern star, Scottish Rite, Knights Templar, VFW, American Legion, 8th Air Force Historical Society, 466th Bomb Group Association and the Military Aviation Preservation Society (MAPS). Ralph received the Roger C. Freeman Award for his photography from the 8th Air Force Historical Society and The Legacy Award from the Military Aviation Preservation society.

The memorial services will be held at Central Presbyterian Church in Massillon, Ohio on April 21, at 11:00 a.m. and at the Military Aviation Preservation Society on April 22 at 4:00 p.m.  The place of internment is yet to be determined.
