Dendy’s 2 touchdowns help Laurens thwart Clinton
Laurens High running back Troy Dendy scored two touchdowns in the first half and finished the game with 180 yards rushing as the Raiders opened the 2017 prep football season with a 24-18 victory over the rival Clinton Red Devils Friday night at K.C. Hanna Stadium.
Dendy scored on a 14-yard touchdown run on the first series of the game for Laurens, then added an 11-yard scoring jaunt toward the end of the first half that gave the Raiders a 17-12 lead on Clinton at the break.
Clinton’s Konnor Richardson threw a 39-yard touchdown pass on fourth-and-3 to Dawson Green for Clinton’s first touchdown of the season, then Richardson later added a 61-yard touchdown pass to Zay Bennett that gave the Red Devils their only lead of the night, 12-10, midway through the second quarter. Richardson also ran for an 11-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to keep Clinton’s hopes alive.
